America’s best Veteran freestyle wrestlers to compete at World Veterans Championships in Martigny, S

America's best Veteran freestyle wrestlers will take on the world in Martigny, Switzerland at the 2001 World Veterans Championships on August 16-19. The best wrestlers in the world who are 35-years-old and older will participate in this annual event.      The U.S. team will feature 16 Veterans National Champion wrestlers from 2001, including eight-time world medalist and six-time Veterans World Champion Russ Cozart, of Brandon, Fla., in Division C (46-50 years) at 69 kg.     Shirzad Ahmadi, of Coventry, Conn., a three-time Veterans World Champion, will participate at 63 kg for Division D (51-55 years) as will 1998 Veterans World Champion Glenn Clark, an 85 kg American wrestler out of Newfoundland, Canada, for Division E (56 years and older).    Five-time national champion Donald Apodaca of Huntington Beach, Calif., will compete at 85 kg for Division D.     At this time, 45 U.S. wrestlers are scheduled to compete with more expected to register before the August 16 event.      U.S. Veterans National Champions competing in Division A (35-40 years) include Michael Dehart of Bradford, Ohio, at 58 kg, Anthony Porcelli of Des Moines, Iowa, at 85 kg and Rob Porter of Urbana, Ill., at 63 kg.     Three U.S. Veterans National Champions will compete for Division B (41-45 years): Kevin Hejnal of Patterson, Calif., at 76 kg, Brad Swartz of Auburn, Wash., at 76 kg and Constantine Barkoczy of Phoenix, Ariz., at 97 kg.    In addition to Cozart, there are three U.S. Veterans National Champions competing in Division C. Frank Halloran of Flower Mound, Texas, will wrestle at 63 kg, Tom Hazell of Torrance, Calif. will wrestle at 97 kg and Peter Zurflieh of Camp Hill, Pa., will wrestle at 58 kg.     Division D will include two U.S. Veterans National Champions in addition to Ahmadi and Apodaca, as Daniel Lincoln of Santa Rosa, Calif., will hit the mat at 69 kg and Tommy Reyna will wrestle at 58 kg.      Rounding out the field of U.S. Veterans National Champions from this year competing at the Veteran World Championships is James Tanniehill of Indianapolis, Ind., at 85 kg for Division E.     The U.S. team will be coached by Dr. Dave Bennett of Colorado Springs, Colo., a NCEP gold-level certified coach and a USA Wrestling national staff member.
