The "Community in Support of USC Wrestling" presented a plan for restoring the highly successful wrestling program at the University of Southern Colorado. In a meeting on Tuesday, June 26, leaders for the "Community in Support of USC Wrestling" presented Southern Colorado President, Tito Guerrero III, with a formal plan for the reinstatement of the wrestling team, as well as the creation of a women's golf program. The plan also calls for a joint effort between the community group and the university to also bring back a women's cross country program beginning in the fall of 2002. In the plan, the community group has agreed to raise the money necessary to reinstate the wrestling program ($65,000), as well as a women's golf program ($29,000) by August 15. This revised plan was the result of a meeting between community leaders and officials from the Univ. of Southern Colorado on Monday, June 18. The "Community in Support of USC Wrestling" has also formally begun collecting pledges and donations from alumni, community members, wrestling supporters and corporations for the effort. Many people have already pledged support. To this point, the "Community in Support of USC Wrestling" has made its primary focus to create a way for the community to back the program with monetary support. Those seeking to participate in the effort should send checks of support to: Southern Colorado Community Foundation/USC Wrestling c/o Dan Carlson 415 North Grand Ave. Pueblo, CO 81003 Checks should be payable to: Southern Colorado Community Foundation/USC Wrestling The "Community in Support of USC Wrestling" is a grass-roots community group of USC graduates and students, local community leaders and wrestling leaders. The organization has been formed to seek the reinstatement of the Univ. of Southern Colorado wrestling program. On Tuesday, May 16, the Univ. of Southern Colorado President Tito Guerrero III announced that USC would be dropping its very successful Div. II wrestling program immediately. This announcement came with little warning, allowing the wrestling program no chance to present a plan to keep the program alive. Members of the Community in Support of USC Wrestling made a presentation at the State Board of Agriculture meeting in Denver, Colo., on Wednesday, June 13. Four leaders made public statements about why USC should continue its wrestling program. The meetings with the university have been the result of the State Board of Agriculture's public position that the future of the wrestling program was an institutional decision at USC.
