USA Wrestling is proud to announce that the 2002 U.S. National Wrestling Championships will return to the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., April 25-27. The best amateur wrestlers in the United States, competing in men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman and women's freestyle wrestling, will participate in this event. The U.S. National Wrestling Championships is annually one of the most exciting amateur sports events of the year, and will include a number of Olympic and World medalists. This will be the 13th time that Las Vegas has served as the host for the U.S. National Wrestling Championships. The local organizing committee will be the Las Vegas Sports Committee, led by Larry Barnson. The Convention Center has been the site of 10 of the past 11 U.S. Nationals Championships. "USA Wrestling is excited that one of our showcase events will return to Las Vegas in 2002," said Mark Scott, Director of National Events. "The event will be organized by the Las Vegas Sports Committee and its president, Larry Barnson. We are confident that the local organizing committee will again conduct an excellent championship. Each year, the greatest athletes in the nation attend this event, and we look forward to providing them with a superb competition. Wrestling fans be able to enjoy witnessing America's best in action." Also, the 2001 U.S. National Veterans Freestyle Wrestling Championships will be held during the week. This competition includes wrestlers 35 years old and above, competing in four age groups. In addition, the West Region Junior Division National Championships will be held in conjunction with the U.S. Nationals, April 23-26. The West Region Championships is one of USA Wrestling's premier Junior-level events. Talented participants from across the country compete for national recognition, while having the chance to watch their wrestling heroes in action.
