USA Wrestling's Coaches Education Program is designed to give coaches a foundation of successful coaching principles to help grow the base of amateur wrestling throughout the country. The National Coaches Education Program (NCEP) certified over 1,100 coaches nationally last year at the Bronze Level. NCEP certification is required by USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body of Amateur wrestling, for coaches to participate in state, regional, national, and international events. Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman Wrestling coaches will learn the fundamental principles of coaching wrestling and discuss important topics relating to the growth and development of amateur wrestling. By completing the certification process at the Bronze Level, you will receive the Bronze Certified Card, and Certificate allowing you to coach at USA Wrestling events across the country. Also, you will receive for future reference the Coach's Guide to Excellence, a $30 value. Finally, as an added bonus for completing the Bronze level, you will receive the official Bronze Certified Coach's shirt, a $25 value. Additionally coaches in attendance at the course will receive a $10 discount on USA Wrestling's Video Syllabus for Part I and Part II. Ordinarily Part I sells for $50 not including shipping and handling charges, while Part II sells for $40. Participants in the Bronze Course will be able to purchase the tapes sets for $10 off of the regular price. Coaches who are Bronze certified are leaders in the wrestling community and are then encouraged to pursue further education through NCEP by completing the Silver and Gold levels. Once, a coach is Bronze certified he/she can attend the National Coaches Colleges held annually. The Coaches College is a five-day intensive study of the sport of wrestling. This year over 60 coaches attended the Silver Level Coaches College held in conjunction with the World Team Trials in Cincinnati. The coaches were treated to technique sessions from the most successful wrestling coaches nationally including five Olympic Champions. The week was a total immersion into the sport of wrestling, and the coaches loved it! This past year, two of USA Wrestling's Olympic Coaches completed their Silver Certification. National Greco-Roman Coach and former Olympic Gold Medallist Steve Fraser and Head Greco-Roman Olympic Coach Dan Chandler took the steps to become NCEP certified at the Silver level. USA Wrestling encourages all active wrestling coaches to take the lead in building the sport of wrestling and attend a Bronze-Certification course soon!
