Twenty-six Olympic & World Medals Collected at the Tour of Wrestling Legends Medal Challenge

Cincinnati, OH (June 23) - The World Championships of Wrestling's Tour of  Legends "Medal Challenge" presented the largest number of Olympic and World  Wrestling Medals with twenty-six medals and nineteen medallists at one time  under one roof.  The "Medal Challenge" took place at the World Team Trials,  where the top U.S. wrestlers are competing for their spot on the U.S. World  Team that will compete at the World Championships of Wrestling in New York  City this September.    Nancy Schultz kicked off the "Medal Challenge" by presenting her late  husband's, Dave Schultz's, Gold Medal from the 1984 Olympics.  Others  speaking on behalf of the World Championships and the Medal Challenge  include former U.S. Olympic Coach Bill Farrell, plus Olympic heroes Dan  Gable, John Smith and Matt Ghaffari.  Dan Gable and John Smith both issued a  challenge to America's Wrestling Legends to beat the record set in  Cincinnati at the World Championships in New York City.    The Tour of Legends has visited major wrestling championships and events  across the country over the last three months to celebrate the sport of  wrestling in anticipation of the 2001 World Championships of Wrestling,  coming this September 26-29 to New York City.
