DAVIDSON, N.C. - T.J. Jaworsky, a three-time NCAA wrestling champion at the University of North Carolina, has been named the new Davidson wrestling coach by Director of Athletics Jim Murphy. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to coach at Davidson," said Jaworsky. "I want to offer thanks to Tom Oddo for putting Davidson in the position to be able to succeed in the coming years." For the past six seasons, Jaworsky has served as the head assistant wrestling coach at North Carolina. During his stint at Chapel Hill, he helped lead the Tar Heels to four Atlantic Coast Conference crowns. Also during that time, he has been a four-time United States national team member, competed outside the U.S. with various world teams and finished third at the 2000 U.S. Olympic trials. In all, Jaworsky brings 25 years of experience in wrestling to Davidson. "This is a great situation for T.J.," remarked UNC Head Coach Bill Lam. "Davidson is fortunate to get someone of this caliber. He has done an outstanding job here and is ready for a head coaching spot." A native of Edmond, Okla., Jaworsky transferred from Oklahoma State to North Carolina in 1992 and proceeded to become the most decorated wrestler in UNC and ACC history. As a senior in 1995, he went 38-0 and was named National Wrestler of the Year and Most Outstanding Wrestler at the NCAA Tournament. Jaworsky was 110-5 in his three seasons at North Carolina while notching three NCAA titles in the 134-pound division. "T. J. brings an incredible wrestling background to Davidson, and he understands how to shape the competitive drive that our students bring to the mat," offered Murphy. "We're very excited about where the program can go from here." Jaworsky replaces Tom Oddo, who stepped down after 16 seasons as the wrestling coach at Davidson. "Change can be hard, but with the support of the staff, administration and alumni, I think everything will work," stated Jaworsky. "It will be a challenge, but I only foresee great things for Davidson wrestling." Davidson returns 12 wrestlers who saw action on the mat in the 2000-01 season when the Wildcats finished 6-13 overall and sixth in the Southern Conference.
