ETU WINS GOLD MEDAL AT 209 POUNDS AT THE CADET WORLD GRECO-ROMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MARIBOR, SLOVENIAJoshua Etu of Queensbury, N.Y. won a gold medal at 95 kg (209 pounds) at the Cadet World Greco-Roman Championships at the University Sports Hall in Maribor, Slovenia on Sunday, July 13. The Cadet World Championships featured the best athletes in the world between 14-16 years old.
Etu claimed the title with a 49 second pin over Adem Tasci of Turkey in the championship match.
He put together one of the greatest tournaments of any U.S. age-group wrestler in history.
In the course of the tournament, Etu won all of his matches by pin, with no match lasting more than 1:19. His five pins occurred in a combined 4:18. In the five matches, Etu allowed just one point, a reversal.
Etu opened the competition with a pair of pins on Friday, July 11, stopping Nikolai Gaidouk of Belarus in 1:11 and pinning Kumar Satish of India in 37 seconds
He won both of his bouts on Saturday, July 12, pinning Robert Benko of Yugoslavia, in 1:19 in the quarterfinals and pinning Victor Shostak of Ukraine in 22 seconds in the semifinals.

This is the second straight year that Etu has qualified for the U.S. Cadet World Greco-Roman team. Etu recently completed his sophomore season for Queensbury High School. He is a member of the ATWA club.
He won both the freestyle and Greco-Roman titles at the Cadet World Team Trials in Evanston, Ill., April 11-13, but chose to compete in Greco-Roman at the World Championships.
Etu is the only U.S. wrestler in the tournament who won a medal.
The head coach of the U.S. Cadet World Greco-Roman team was Morrie Geselter of Deerfield, Ill. and the assistant coach was four-time Greco-Roman Olympian Mark Fuller of Provo, Utah.
