UNITED STATES DEFEATS POLAND, 5-4, IN WORLD DUAL MEET HELD IN KATOVICE, POLAND, AUGUST 7 
   The National Greco-Roman wrestling team from United States defeated a national team from Poland, 5-4, in a dual meet in Katovice, Poland, August 7. 
   The competition featured matches at all eight international weight classes, including two bouts at 167.5 pounds.  
   Poland is considered the top Greco-Roman wrestling team in the world, based upon winning the most medals at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga. 
   The United States captured wins at three of the first five bouts, with victories by Broderick Lee (Portland, Ore./Peninsula WC) at 119 pounds, James Gruenwald (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 127.75 lbs. and Chris Saba (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 152 pounds. 
   Lee stopped veteran Dariuz Jablonski, 5-0. Lee, an alternate to the 1996 Olympic team, will be competing in his first World Championships in September, which will also be held in Poland. 
   Gruenwald, who was second in the 1997 U.S. Nationals and World Team Trials, stopped Gregorz Szyzka, 4-0. 
   Saba scored a tight 0-0 overtime referee's decision over Andrzej Buniak. Saba will also be competing in his first World Championships in September. 
   The next U.S. win came at 275.5 pounds, where Rulon Gardner (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) scored an impressive 5-0 decision over Jacek Yaracz. Gardner, a 1996 World Cup champion, will also be competing in his first World Championships this year. 
   The dual meet was decided at 167.5 pounds. Matt Lindland (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids) lost his first match to three-time Olympic medalist Jozef Tracz, which was held at the beginning of the dual meet. In the second match, Lindland scored a 4-0 decision over Buitlonig Prycukowski to give the meet to the USA. 
   The U.S. team is in Poland to compete in the Pytlasinki Grand Prix in Katovice, August 8-10. This is a tune-up event for the 1997 Greco-Roman World Championships, which are scheduled for Wroclaw, Poland, Sept, 8-13.
