Matt Lindland Age:30 Started wrestling at age:15 College: University of Nebraska-Lincoln What's your goal going into the Olympics? My number one goal is to focus on who got me here (God) and to give him all the Glory. My other goal is to take one match at a time, and to go into each match with a plan. What was the reaction back in your hometown? Have you been hearing from old friends? My family and friends are really happy for me. I have got a lot of e-mails from people I've gotten to know throughout my life and through wrestling. I got more calls in the last two months from people than I've gotten in the last two years. There are a lot of people out there who are proud of me and really happy about the outcome. I've also gotten little e-mail from some real losers telling I don't deserve it and junk like that. To those people I would have to say only God can judge me and I've done nothing but continue to fight for what I felt was right. The out come should speak for its self. Praise GOD. I don't care what those people think of me. My family and friends will continue to love me and be proud of me regardless of your opinion. What has wrestling taught you? How do you view the sport? I've learned that I can do everything through him who gives me strength. I've learned to forget what is behind, and keep my sights on the goal. I've learned to be thankful in all circumstances and to give God all the glory. What do you think of the coaching staff assembled for the Olympics? I think the coaches we have are the best the world has to offer. They know me and know what I need. They will do what ever is needed to help me get the Gold. Before a big match, what do you tell yourself to mentally reassure yourself that you're ready? I know I'm ready I don't have to talk myself into anything. I focus on God and leave the outcome to him. I have a plan for each match. It never goes as planned but at least I have a plan. Who has been the biggest influence on you during your wrestling career? Why Sorry coaches. You have all done a great job helping me throughout my career. I love you all, but my wife has had the biggest influence on my wrestling career and on my life. She makes me want to be a better person Husband and father and wrestler. I thank God every day for putting her in my life.
