Two U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers claimed silver medals at the Haparanda Cup, held in Haparanda, Sweden, Dec. 6-7.The U.S. silver medalists were Marcel Cooper (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marines) at 152 pounds and Ethan Bosch (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 187.25 pounds.
Cooper was defeated in the gold medal finals by Samuel Manukian, who competes for the BK Loke club of Sweden. Manukian placed 10th in the 1996 Olympic Games, representing Armenia. Cooper is currently ranked No. 3 in the United States in his weight class.
Bosch, a U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) resident athlete, was defeated by Knut Isaksen of Norway in the finals.
Claiming a bronze medal was USOTC resident athlete Brian Keck (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 286 pounds.
Placing fourth were USOTC resident athletes Mike Uker (Colorado Springs, Colo./Hawkeye WC) at 167.5 pounds and Dan Hicks (Fredricksburg, Va./U.S. Marines) at 213.75 pounds.
A group of other top U.S. athletes from a variety of clubs participated in the meet and placed in a tie for fifth in the team standings. A U.S. Marine Corps team also entered the tournament, and placed in a tie for ninth.
