DR. DAVE BENNETT IS NAMED WRESTLING BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR BY THE NATIONAL WRESTLING MEDIA ASSOCIATION 

Dr. Dave Bennett, USA Wrestling's Director of Broadcasting, was named 1997 Wrestling Broadcaster of the Year by the National Wrestling Media Association (NWMA). Bennett directs USA Sports Broadcast Properties, a new division of USA Wrestling.

Dr. Bennett has over 14 years of experience in the field of television and video production. He has worked as a writer, cameraman, producer, director and editor. He served as the Executive Producer of DDD Productions and I/See Inc. of Kennewick, Wash., and has won four Telly Awards for Camera and Post Production work on various projects.

Bennett has produced more than 30 one-hour broadcast shows that have been aired nationally over both cable and satellite. He helped develop numerous wrestling events for television including six World Championships, five Freestyle World Cups and a number of U.S. National Championships. His shows have aired on USA America, Prime, ABC, NBC, TBS, ESPN and FOX and have included wrestling, hockey, basketball, football, judo and gymnastics events.

In addition, Bennett has produced over 50 educational videos that are currently being used in high schools, colleges and clubs throughout the world. He has also created several Children's Educational and Entertainment videos. Dr. Bennett, an optomotrist, also operated Tri-City Eye Clinic in Washington, and has been a very successful wrestling coach on the high school and club level.

Another journalist with a strong connection to USA Wrestling, freelance photographer Casey B. Gibson, was named 1997 Photographer of the Year by the NWMA. Gibson has served as USA Wrestling's photographer at many major wrestling events, including the 1995 World Freestyle Championships and a number of U.S. National Championships. Gibson has also shot numerous technique photographs for USA Wrestler and The Complete Coach, publications produced by USA Wrestling. Gibson serves as a photographer for a number of other sports organizations, with a special interest in cycling.

Others recognized by the NWMA included Justin Goldberg of the Maryland Wrestler as the Print Journalist of the Year; Mike Kirk of Central Oklahoma University as the Sports Information Director of the Year; and W.I.N. Magazine as the Publication of the Year.

Goldberg, a high school student, is a reporter for the state publication in Maryland, and also writes many freelance wrestling articles for the Baltimore Sun. Kirk handles the promotion for the successful Div. II program at Central Oklahoma, and was a key media volunteer at the 1996 Olympic Games. W.I.N. is a national wrestling newspaper, which is published by respected wrestling journalist Mike Chapman, and covers all levels of the sport year-round.

The National Wrestling Media Association is the professional organization for wrestling journalists, and includes reporters, editors, photographers, broadcasters and sports information directors.
