UPDATED AIR DATES FOR THREE MAJOR USA WRESTLING EVENTS ON ESPN AND ESPN2 ARE ANNOUNCED
ESPN has notified USA Wrestling of the updated air dates for three major wrestling competitions that will be broadcast nationally this summer.
The World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling will be aired on ESPN one time, and on ESPN2 on two occasions.
The one-hour show is scheduled to be shown on ESPN on Thursday, June 25 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
The ESPN2 showings for the World Cup are scheduled for Sunday, June 7 at 9:00 p.m. EDT and Monday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
The World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling was originally held in Stillwater, Okla., April 4-5. The broadcast will feature the championship dual meet between the United States and Russia.
The broadcast team for the World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling included veteran play-by-play announcer Lon McEachern, Olympic Champion Dan Gable, USA Wrestling Executive Director Jim Scherr and Olympic Champion Kendall Cross.
A USA vs. Russia World Dual Meet will be aired twice on ESPN. This one-hour show will be broadcast on Thursday, June 25 at 5:00 p.m. EDT and on Monday, June 29 at 5:00 a.m. EDT.
In addition, there will be two airings of the USA vs. Russia Dual Meet on ESPN 2: The dates are Wednesday, July 8 at 1:30 a.m. EDT and Thursday, July 9 at 1:00 p.m.
The dual meet was originally held in Waterloo, Iowa on April 7. Many top international stars from both nations participated in the dual meet. The Russian team featured athletes on their 1998 World Cup champion squad.
The broadcast team for the USA vs. Russia World Dual meet included McEachern, plus Olympic Champions Jeff Blatnick and Tom Brands.
The 1998 U.S. National Wrestling Championships will be presented as a one-hour show on ESPN2. The air dates for the U.S. Nationals are Wednesday, July 8 at 1:00 p.m. and Monday, July 20 at 12:00 p.m.
This competition, which features the best wrestlers in the nation, was originally held at Disney¹s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., April 25-26. The broadcast team for the 1998 U.S. Nationals Championships included McEachern, Blatnick and Scherr.
