MILLARD ADVANCES IN GRECO-ROMAN CONSOLATION ROUND AT WORLD YOUTH GAMES
Despite suffering a loss to Sergei Ponomaryov of the Ukraine in the 76 kg.-weight class, Justin Millard advanced in the concolation round to
keep his medal hopes alive in Greco-Roman wrestling.
If Millard wins his first match tomorrow he will advance to the third-fourth place contest.
The two other Greco-Roman wrestlers that remained were eliminated from the tournament on Monday. Jeremiah Knabe (Jackson, Minn.) lost in his
only match of the day, by technical fall, against Ramaz Nozadze of Georgia at 83 kg. Josh Lamano (Layton, Utah) defeated Mahmoud Telawi of Syria, 4-2, in his first match of the day at 52 kg. and lost in his second, to Takhir Djalabayev of Kyrgakstan, 6-2.
While final placements (based in part on a point system) were not available late Monday, Knabe and Lamano are assured of finishing in the top six and 12 in their weight class, respectively.
"Justin has done very well," said Head Coach Tony Thomas (Houston, Texas). "That's a tough weight class and you can't make any mistakes at this level as we look to tomorrow."
