Four U.S. wrestlers unbeaten at Cadet Greco-Roman World Championships

FOUR U.S. WRESTLERS UNBEATEN AFTER FIRST ROUND AT CADET WORLD GRECO-ROMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA 

All 10 U.S. wrestlers have begun competition at the 1998 Cadet World Greco-Roman Championships, held in Pretoria, South Africa on July 29-August 1.

The top 14-16 year old wrestlers in the world are competing in Greco-Roman, one of the two international styles of wrestling.

U.S. athletes without a loss in the first round include 1997 Cadet Nationals champion Nathan Piasecki of Minocqua, Wis. at 99-pounds, Michael Simpson of Anaheim, Calif. at 114.5 pounds, 1998 Cadet Nationals champion Nick Zajac of Hastings, Minn. at 167.5 pounds and Matt Hasbrouck of Indianapolis, Ind. at 209.25 pounds.

Paul Carlson of Cedar, Minn. remains alive in the consolation rounds, with one loss at 138.75 pounds.

Five U.S. wrestlers have two losses and have been eliminated from competition. They include 1998 Cadet Nationals champion Cam Jones of Salt Lake City, Utah at 92.5 pounds, 1998 Cadet Nationals champion Jason Moreno of Firebaugh, Calif., at 105.5 pounds, Steven Garcia of Cypress, Calif. at 125.5 pounds, Ashton Buswell of Pleasant View, Utah at 152 pounds and Tim Kraemer of Cold Springs, Minn. at 182.5 pounds.

The U.S. team is led by head coach Matt Wilkinson of Princeton, N.J. and assistant coach Marty Morgan of Minneapolis, Minn.
