VEGA ELIMINATED AT JUNIOR WORLD GRECO-ROMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN CAIRO, EGYPT, AUG. 21
Leroy Vega (Valparaiso, Ind./Minn. Storm), the final U.S. wrestler in the field, was elimined at the FILA Junior Greco-Roman World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, August 21.
The tournament features the best 17-20 year old wrestlers in the World, competing in Greco-Roman, one of the two Olympic styles.
Vega was defeated in his only match of the day at 132.25 pounds, losing by technical fall to Marvis Kasynov of Ukraine, 10-0. Vega ended with a 2-2 record in the tournament, and placed 10th in the final standings.
None of the 10 U.S. wrestlers in the field were able to qualify for medal contention.
The U.S. team was coached by Dan Russell of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Steve Sabo of Herndon, Va.
