USA WRESTLING ANNOUNCES FOUR FINALIST CITIES FOR 2000 FINAL FREESTYLE OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS: DALLAS; INDIANAPOLIS; KANSAS CITY, MO. AND SEATTLEUSA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling in the United States, has named the four finalist cities to host the 2000 Final Freestyle Olympic Team Trials: Dallas, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Mo. and Seattle.
The Final Freestyle Olympic Team Trials will determine the U.S. freestyle wrestling team that will compete in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. The United States is among the top three freestyle wrestling nations in the world, and numerous world-class athletes are expected to compete in the event.
The finalist cities were selected from a total of 10 bids from communities across the nation. Each of the organizing committees for the four finalist bids will make presentations to USA Wrestling on December 1, as part of the final selection process. The host city is expected to be announced on December 8.
"USA Wrestling is pleased to have four very strong bids for our Olympic Trials," said Jim Scherr, Executive Director of USA Wrestling. "We look forward to sitting down with the cities to discuss the bids. It will be a difficult decision, though."
Among the areas which each bid city must discuss during its presentation to USA Wrestling are: information on the city; venue details; local organizing committee structure; spectator potential and previous event history; sponsorships and financial opportunities and event budget, as well as questions and answers.
The Final Freestyle Olympic Team Trials is considered the most popular event hosted by USA Wrestling, and is expected to draw thousands of fans. The 1996 Final Freestyle Olympic Team Trials, which were held in Spokane, Wash., set records for attendance at a freestyle wrestling event in the United States.
