USA WRESTLING MAKES IMPORTANT EVENT SCHEDULE CHANGES: THE U.S. NATIONALS IN LAS VEGAS WILL BE HELD APRIL 29-MAY 1 AND THE FILA JUNIOR WORLD TEAM TRIALS IS RESCHEDULED FOR APRIL 23-25 AND MOVED TO COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.USA Wrestling has announced major schedule changes for two of its most important national events in 1999.
The 1999 U.S. National Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. has been pushed back one week on the national schedule to April 29-May 1. The competition will still be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, as previously announced.
The tournament features the best Senior-level athletes in the nation in freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestling. The original date for this competition was a week earlier.
The U.S. National Wrestling Championships is one of the most exciting amateur sports events of the year, and will include a number of Olympic and World medalists.
The 1999 West Junior Regional Championships, which is scheduled to be held alongside the U.S. Nationals, will also be hosted one week later than originally published, on April 28-30. This competition will also be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The West Junior Regionals includes many of the best high-school age freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers in the West and from across the nation. The original date for this competition was also one week earlier.
The U.S. Nationals and West Junior Regionals were moved back one week because of venue availability.
In order for USA Wrestling to switch the dates of the U.S. Nationals, another major USA Wrestling age-group national tournament was also moved on the schedule.
The 1999 FILA Junior Nationals/World Team Trials has been moved forward one week on the schedule, and will be held in April 23-25 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
This competition was originally scheduled one week later at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.
This tournament features the best freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers in the nation between 17-20 years-old. This includes many of the best high school and college athletes in the nation.
The freestyle champions from the tournament will qualify to compete at the 1999 FILA Junior Freestyle World Championships in Sydney, Australia, Aug. 19-22. The Greco-Roman champions from this tournament will qualify to compete at the 1999 FILA Junior Greco-Roman World Championships in Bucharest, Romania, Aug. 12-15.
Although there were no problems with the event organization in Lincoln, the tournament was moved ahead one week to accommodate the U.S. Nationals schedule change.
