NWCA ALL-STAR CLASSIC, FEATURING THE BEST COLLEGE WRESTLERS IN THE NATION, TO BE AIRED ON FOX SPORTS NEW ENGLAND ON MARCH 8 AND AGAIN ON MARCH 17USA Sports Broadcasting has announced that the National Wrestling All-Star Classic will be aired on FOX Sports New England twice in March.
The air dates for this event on FOX Sports New England will be Monday, March 8 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, and again on Wednesday, March 17 at 12:00 noon Eastern time.
Viewers in other regions of the country can find this program offered by the FOX Satellite Sports Channel.
This will be a 90 minute broadcast, shown on a taped-delay basis, from the competition held at Oklahoma State Univ. in Stillwater, Okla., Monday, February 1. The event was also aired in early February on FOX Sports Chicago.
This annual competition features challenge matches in each of the 10 college weight classes. Highly ranked NCAA Div. I college wrestling stars from across the nation are invited to participate in this exciting event. Competing in this historic event is one of the top honors for a college wrestler.
Among the athletes who competed in the 1999 NWCA All-Star Classic are returning NCAA champions Teague Moore (125) and Eric Guerrero (133) of Oklahoma State, as well as Stephen Neal of Cal-State Bakersfield (285). A total of five 1998 NCAA finalists were included on the card.
The NWCA All-Star Classic is part of the "College Series of Wrestling," a joint effort between the U.S. Olympic Committee, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and USA Wrestling. Included in this series in 1999 are wrestling events from the Big Ten, the Big 12 and the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
The announcers for the All-Star Classic included veteran play-by-play broadcaster Lon McEachern along with color commentator from Larry Nugent, a respected athlete and coach who works for USA Wrestling. In addition, special guest commentary was provided by Olympic Champion John Smith, Olympic silver medalist Zeke Jones and Univ. of Oklahoma head coach Jack Spates.
