Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championships to air in March on FOX Sports Chicago, as well as on Cox Communications and TCI Channel 9 in OklahomaUSA Sports Broadcasting has announced that the Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championships will be aired on a number of occassions in March.
The Big 12 Conference Championships will be a two-hour show, taped from the competition held in Ames, Iowa on March 6.
The air date for this event on FOX Sports Chicago on Sunday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. Central time. Viewers across the nation can also watch this FOX Sports program at the same time on Primestar and Digistar.
Cox Communications in Oklahoma City, Okla. will air the Big 12 Championships two times on Sunday, March 14, first at 9:30 a.m. Central time and a second time at 7:00 p.m. Central time.
TCI Channel 9 in Tulsa, Okla. will also braodcast the show on Monday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. Central time.
This annual competition features many of the best college wrestlers in the nation, attempting to qualify for the 1999 NCAA Div. I Championships.
Prior to the Big 12 Championships, four of the participating teams were ranked in the top six in the nation, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll: Oklahoma State (#1), Nebraska (#4), Oklahoma (#5) and Iowa State (#6).
The Big 12 Conference Championships is part of the "College Series of Wrestling," a joint effort between the U.S. Olympic Committee, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and USA Wrestling. Included in this series in 1999 are wrestling events from the Big Ten, the Big 12 and the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
The announcers for the Big 12 Conference Championships included veteran play-by-play broadcaster Lon McEachern along with color commentators Kevin Jackson and Larry Nugent. Jackson was a 1992 Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Champion. Nugent is a respected athlete and coach who works for USA Wrestling.
