UNITED STATES TIES CUBA, 13-13, IN WORLD DUAL MEET, APRIL 6, IN INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINN. 
   The United States tied Cuba, 13-13, in a World Dual meet of freestyle wrestling  at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., April 6. 
   Four U.S. wrestlers won matches in the dual meet: Terry Steiner (Madison, Wis./Team Excel) at 152 pounds, Daryl Weber (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 167.5 pounds, Joel Sharratt (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 213.75 pounds and Billy Pierce (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 286 pounds. 
   Steiner won by injury default over Yosvany Sanchez of Cuba, who was injured during the World Cup in Spokane, Wash., April 3. 
   Weber was pushed into overtime before defeating Walter Torrientes, 5-3,  at the 6:13 mark. Weber was second in the 1998 U.S. Nationals, and is a former NCAA champion from the Univ. of Iowa. 
   Sharratt also needed to go into overtime, stopping Wilfredo Morales, 3-0 at the 6:19 mark. 
   Sharratt was a two-time state champion (1989-90) at Bloomington Kennedy High School in Minnesota and was a 1994 NCAA champion for the University of Iowa. He is currently working with Minnesota USA Wrestling. 
   Pierce upset 1998 World Champion Alexis Rodriguez in a 1-1 overtime referee's decision. Rodriguez was penalized for passivity more times than Pierce. 
   Pierce normally competes in Greco-Roman, where he is ranked No. 2 in the United States. Pierce was a two-time Minnesota state champion for Roosevelt High School and competed for the Minnesota Gophers in college.  
   The first match ended in a double disqualification between 1997 World Champion Wilfredo Garcia of Cuba and 1996 U.S. Olympian Lou Rosselli (Edinboro, Pa./New York AC). Neither athlete could score a point in the six-minute match, and both were disqualified.
