1998 World Champion Micah Kelly among 1999 FILA Cadet Nationals/World Team Trials champions at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minn., June 111998 World Champion Micah Kelly (Mercer, Penn./TAPS) decisioned Melissa Moore (San Jose, Calif./Peninsula Grapplers), 5-0, to defend her title at 101 pounds at the 1999 FILA Cadet Nationals/World Team Trials in Rochester, Minn., June 11.
World silver medalist Mary Kelly (Mahomet, Ill.) defended her title at 94 pounds. Erin Tomeo (Volant, Penn./TAPS) defended her title at 114 pounds when she won by a technical fall over Tanica Hutchison (Soldotna, Alaska), 11-0. Melina Hutchison (Sodotna, Alaska/Alaska WC) defended her title at 108 pounds.
Marcie Van Dusen (Twin Peaks, Calif./Out Law WC) defended her title at 123 pounds with a pin over Brandi Rosenbrock (Warren, Mich./SCS Waves WC) in 2:49.
Other champions include: Rosaria DeCola (Ann Arbor, Mich.) at 132 pounds, Cathilee Albert (Boulder, Colo./Colorado WC) at 143 pounds, Jenna Pavlik (Lewed, Del./Sussex County WC) at 154 pounds and Alicia Mena (St. Paul, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 154+ pounds.
DeCola decisioned Alex Cramer (Byron Center, Mich.,/Byron Center WC), 7-1, Pavlik won by a technical fall over Elizabeth DeRoy (Rosamond, Calif./Desert WC), 12-2, and Mena won by a technical fall over Stefanie O'Connor (Boron, Calif./Desert WC), 10-0.
The Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament was Erin Tomeo, the champion at 114 pounds. She also won the Junior Nationals/World Team Trials yesterday. The award for most falls went to Elizabeth DeRoy (Rosamond, Calif./Desert WC) with three pins in 2:45 at 154 pounds.
The FILA Cadet age level has been changed to include athletes 15-17 years old. Winners of the FILA Cadet Nationals/World Team Trials will be eligible to represent the U.S. at the Women's Cadet World Championships in Lodz, Poland, August 5-8.
