Four 1998 World medalists head to Women's Cadet World Championships

Micah Kelly of Mercer, Pa., 1998 Women's Cadet World Champion at 94 pounds, will compete at the 1999 Women's Cadet World Championships, August 4-7, in Lodz, Poland.   Three other 1998 World Team medalists will also compete in the tournament. 

Mary Kelly of Mahomet, Ill., defended her title at 94 pounds. She won the FILA Cadet Nationals and World Team Trials in Rochester, Minn., June 11. Kelly finished second at the 1998 Women's Cadet World Championships at 83 pounds.

Erin Tomeo of Volant, Pa., won the World Team Trials with a technical fall over Tanica Hutchison of Sodotna, Alaska, 11-0, at 108 pounds. She finished third at last year's Worlds at 101 pounds. Tomeo also won the FILA Junior Nationals, but opted to travel with the Cadet team this year.

At 123 pounds, Marcie Van Dusen of Twin Peaks, Calif., will compete for the World Team. She pinned Brandi Rosenbrock of Warren, Mich., in 2:49. Van Dusen finished third at the 1998 Women's Cadet World Championships.

Rosaria DeCola of Ann Arbor, Mich., is this year's last returning wrestler. DeCola decisioned Alex Cramer of Byron Center, Mich., 7-1. DeCola finished seventh at the 1998 Women's Cadet World Championships.

Other Cadet National champions on the 1999 World Team include: Melina Hutchison of Sodotna, Alaska at 108 pounds, Cathilee Albert of Boulder, Colo., at 143 pounds and Jenna Pavlik of Lewes, Del., at 154 pounds. The team will not have anyone competing at the 83-pound or 88-pound weight classes.

Coaches for the World Team are Head Coach Tadaaki Hatta of Oberlin, Ohio, and Assistant Coach Sam Portillo of Tucson, Ariz.

The team will leave for Poland on August 1.
