MOYER TO SERVE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL WRESTLING COACHES ASSOCIATION           

FAIRFAX, VA - George Mason University Patriot Club Executive Director Michael Moyer has announced his resignation effective August 31, 1999.

Moyer will leave to become the Executive Director of the National Wrestling Coaches Association in September. Moyer and his family will relocate to Lancaster, Pa. site of the NWCA National Headquarters.

'We are sorry to see Mike depart but at that same time we are delighted for him and his family to return home and begin a new chapter in their personal and professional lives," said Tom O'Connor, George Mason assistant vice president and director of athletics. "Mike has served the George Mason University community exceedingly well in his roles as a coach and as an administrator. We appreciate all his efforts in the advancement of Patriot athletics."

Moyer will end a 14-year association with George Mason. He compiled a 126-29-2 record as head wrestling coach from 1985-95 and led his team to Colonial Athletic Association titles in 1992 and 1995. Moyer was named the CAA Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1995 and was honored as the Virginia College Coach of the Year in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 1995.

He moved into an administrative role when he was named the Patriot Club Executive Director on June 1, 1995. Under his direction the Patriot Club has shown significant increases in membership, donations and endowment growth.

A native of Reading, Pa. and a graduate of West Chester (Pa.) University, Moyer is chairman ofthe NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee and has been a member of that group since 1994.

"There are mixed emotions when you leave such a terrific place after 14 years," he said. "We were able to establish a number of relationships with generous people through the Patriot Club, and as a coach I had the opportunity to watch many student-athletes go on to productive professional careers. I am also excited to start a new career and challenges with the National Wrestling Coaches Association."

Moyer begins his new position on Sept. 7. He and his wife Beth Am have a son Even.
