FLASH: Kennedy wins silver medal at Kadirov Cup in Russia

GROZNY, Russia – Jimmy Kennedy Ann Arbor, Mich. (New York AC/Cliff Keen WC) won a silver medal at 60 kg/132 lbs. on the final day of the Ramzan Kadirov Cup on Sunday.
It was the second straight week that Kennedy had reached the championship finals in a respected international tournament in Russia. Last weekend, Kennedy won a gold medal at the Intercontinental Cup in Khasavjurt, Russia.
Kennedy won all of his preliminary matches to qualify for the finals, where he was defeated by Murad Nukhadiev of Russia. Nukhadiev was a bronze medalist at the 2013 President’s Cup of Buryatia.
Kennedy is currently ranked No. 2 in the USA at his weight class, after taking second at the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials. A star for Illinois, Kennedy is now training at Michigan with the Cliff Keen WC.
Past NCAA champion Dustin Kilgore (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids/OTC) did not medal at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
The USA had two medals in this event, as Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) won a bronze medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs on Saturday.
