OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Tabbed as the preseason favorites, the King University women's wrestling team lived up to that billing in the first major event of the women's college wrestling season, the Cliff Keen Oklahoma City Duals

The Tornado cruised through pool play and both the quarter and semifinals before facing defending WCWA national champion Simon Fraser University in the finals of the Cliff Keen Duals. King didn't slow down, topping the Clan 35-9 to take the title. For the weekend, King went 7-0 en route to the championship.

After six wins, King took on defending WCWA National Champion Simon Fraser in the finals. The Tornado fell behind 4-0 early, but Daisy Santos gave the 5-4 lead to King with a pin at 109 pounds. Haley Augello followed with a win by tech fall at 116, and King held a 9-5 lead that they would not relinquish.

At 136, Alli Ragan took another pin victory, defeating Mallory Velte in 1:32. Julia Salata and McAdoo earned the final two King victories of the day as Salata earned win on a tech fall at 155 while Malexis McAdoo ended the 35-9 triumph with a pin of Jenna McLatchy in 1:46.

"King University came ready to wrestling in the finals and have a very balanced team," said Simon Fraser coach Justin Abdou. "We have some work to do to put ourselves in a position to beat them. The team had a bit of a let down after beating OCU. King got on a roll early on and rode that momentum to a fairly lopsided win."

In the third place match, Oklahoma City defeated Wayland Baptist, 27-15. The Stars built a 17-0 advantage after Brieana Delgado's technical-fall win over Jesse Von Behren at 123 pounds.

At 116, Shelby Morrison pinned Kristin Navarrete in 1:26. Cody Pfau and Emily Webster had technical falls for the Stars. OCU's Demi Strub won 5-0 over Valerie Rosales at 155 to stop Wayland Baptist's three-match win string. Sherese Thomas tacked on a technical-fall win 8-0 over Brenda Mendoza for the Stars.

Placing fifth was Lindenwood, with a 26-19 win over the University of the Cumberlands. Seventh place went to McKendree, a 24-20 winner over Missouri Baptist.

In the semifinals, King squared off with Wayland Baptist University, and Shannon Constantine started the match with a pin in 2:45 at the 101 pound weight class. Daisy Santos followed with a pin in 1:49 at 109 and Alli Ragan took a victory via pin in 53 seconds to give King a 28-0 lead. Lorrie Ramos and Malexis McAdoo capped King's 41-3 victory with tech fall wins at 170 and 191 pounds, respectively.

In the other semifinals, Oklahoma City led 16-1 as Cody Pfau, Emily Webster, Kristi Garr and Brieana Delgado had technical-fall victories in the first three weights. Simon Fraser responded by winning the last seven matches. Justina Distasio put Simon Fraser in front 22-17 with a fall. Jenna McLatchy clinched the Clan's win with a victory at 191.
