FLASH: Rey wins bronze medal at Kadirov Cup in Russia

GROZNY, Russia – Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) won a bronze medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs on the opening day of the Ramzan Kadirov Cup on Saturday.

Rey, a past NCAA champion for Lehigh and a member of Freestyle Team USA, won his first international medal of the new season.

Two other U.S. athletes competed on Saturday, but were beaten in their opening bout and did not advance.

The competition concludes on Sunday, with action at 60 kg/132 lbs., 74 kg/163 lbs. and 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Competing for the USA are a pair of athletes who won medals last week at the Intercontinental Cup in Khasavjurt, Russia: Jimmy Kennedy, who won a gold at 60 kg and Dustin Kilgore, who claimed silver at 96 kg.
