The top spot in the Olympic Fight Top 10 Countdown is the historic moment from September 8 in Buenos Aires, Argentina when the International Olympic Committee voted to reinstate wrestling as a provisional sport for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.

Three sports, wrestling, baseball/softball and squash, presented their case to the IOC General Assembly in hopes of earning the last provisional spot in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.

FILA used the same all-star team to give their presentation to the IOC, led by FILA President Nenad Lalovic of Serbia, Olympian and longtime Olympic sports executive Jim Scherr of the United States, plus three Olympic medalists, Carol Huyhn of Canada, Daniel Igali of Nigeria and Canada and Lise LeGrand of France. All five did a tremendous job under extreme pressure. Also included in the wrestling presentation were two outstanding and emotional videos.

The world media had travelled to Buenos Aires to report on this historic decision. The IOC provided a live video feed to the world, allowing wrestlers and fans the chance to witness the drama. Around the United States, wrestling people came together for viewing parties of the live feed to witness wrestling's fate.

Shortly after the voting began, IOC President Jacques Rogge made an announcement. Wrestling received a majority of 49 out of 95 votes on the first round of voting to secure a place on the Olympic programme for 2020 and 2024. The worldwide wrestling community celebrated the decision, and news quickly reached the world through the media.

This day marked the crowing achievement thus far in wrestling’s Olympic fight. The battle now begins to reinstate wrestling to the list of core sports for the Olympics and ensure wrestling’s Olympic place for future generations.
