Olympic Fight Top 10 Countdown: No. 5 Rumble on the Rails

In honor of wrestling being reinstated as an Olympic sport for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic games USA Wrestling will be counting down the top 10 moments in wrestling’s Olympic fight. 

No. 5 on our Olympic Fight Top 10 Countdown goes to the Rumble on the Rails event held on May 15 in the historic Grand Central Terminal in New York City featuring three world wrestling powers the United States, Russia and Iran.
 
The three teams competed in a dual meet format with the United States facing Iran in freestyle to start the event. Iran won the dual against the Americans six matches to one.
 
This event marked the first time the Iranian’s have wrestled in the Unites States since the 2003 World Championships in New York City.
 
The second dual pitted the United States against Russia in matchups of men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman competition. The U.S. team defeated Russia by a score of eight matches to one.
 
Highlights for the United States included Kyle Dake defeating Iranian () in the clinch, Logan Stieber defeating the world No.1 ranked Opan Sat in a wild three period bout, David Taylor pinning 2013 World Bronze Medalist Magomed Kurbanaliev and Jordan Burroughs putting on a show against Russia’s Saba Khubezhty.
 
The Rumble on the Rails was broadcast live on NBC Sports Network (USA vs. Iran) and on Universal Sports Network (USA vs. Russia) and streamed on TeamUSA.org and was the centerpiece event of the newly created World Wrestling Month.
