ATHLETE QUOTES, GRECO-ROMAN WRESTLING PAN AMERICAN GAMES TEAM

SUNDAY, JULY 25TH, MORNING SESSION (Semifinals)

Steven Mays - 54kg - Pensacola, Fla.

Lost by ref. dec. to David Ochoa, Venezuela, 2-2, ot, 9:00

"Sometimes the best guy doesn't win. I just didn't wrestle well. I thought I controlled the match, but you can't look for anything from the referees."

Dennis Hall - 58Kg - Plover, Wis.

Pin Mike Francis, Canada, 2:44

"I felt good, got a hot warm-up. I was ready to go. It's tough waiting around. You lose the get-up-and-go. You lose the sweat."

"I'm just going to go all out and fight. Whatever happens happens."

Glenn Nieradka - 63kg - Colorado Spgs., Colo.

Lost dec. to Enrique Cubas, Peru

"The delay is no excuse. You just can't make those kinds of mistakes. Probably the biggest mistake was thinking about the Cuban. You've got to keep your focus..don't let anything distract you."

David Zuniga - 69kg - New Brighton, Minn.

Dec. Luis Izquierdo, Colombia, 6-3 "I made a couple of bad mistakes in the beginning that cost me points."

"I'm pleased I'm in the finals. Everything has to be perfect. If you make a mistake its hard to recover. It's hard to score when a guy shuts down."

"I don't mind the break. I'll eat, take a nap. Make sure your wide awake. As long as they don't screw around with the start times."

Matt Lindland - 76kg - Lincoln, Neb.

Won by tech. fall over Rodolpho Hernandez, Mexico, 11-0, 1:41

"I'm looking forward to my match with (Filiberto) Azcuy tonight. I feel real good about my chances."

Quincey Clark - 85kg - New Brighton, Minn.

Pin Felix Villalobos, Peru, 3:37

"I warmed up real hard. I'm not even sure about my performance. I didn't feel in control. I'm used to dominating more. I know I'm going to have to wrestle much better to beat Mendez. If not this time then the next time. Hopefully, it will be next time."

Jason Klohs - 97kg - Maple Grove, Minn.

Dec. Arnulfo Hernandez, Colombia, 3-0

I woke up this morning and the shoulder felt good. I was so happy that it felt better. I didn't want to get wild. Usually I'm a close wrestler. Probably be the same in the finals."

Dremiel Byers - 130kg - Colorado Spgs., Colo.

Pin Alfredo Far, Panama, 3:03

(about facing Cuban Hector Milian in the finals, who beat Byers on Saturday)

"I'm going to throw caution to the wind. When I go off instinct I do a whole lot better. I've analyzed the match. Dennis said that if you think they're going to give it (a move) to you, they will. I'm going to give him a totally different match."

Joe DeMeo - Head Coach "It was an excellent session. We won 6 and lost two. The two that we lost we were in the matches and had chances to win. Going into tonight we have a chance for 7 golds and 8 medals. The coaching is doing a great job and the wrestlers are doing their job. We just have to do it. I'm very encouraged, but a little disappointed in those losses. We have to get up for tonight."
