Carol Huynh (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/FILA Presentation Team) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Huynh, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist for Canada, delivered a powerful and moving speech as the final presenter for FILA on Sunday that helped enable wrestling to stay in the Olympic Games through 2024.

Huynh, along with FILA President Nenad Lalovic, past U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Jim Scherr, Olympic champion Daniel Igali and Olympic medalist Lise LeGrand, delivered strong presentations during the International Olympic Committee Session in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Wrestling was selected by 49 of 95 members of the IOC General Assembly in being chosen over baseball/softball and squash for a provisional spot in the Olympics in 2020 and 2024. Wrestling already was guaranteed a spot in the 2016 Olympics.

The IOC Executive Board had recommended in February that wrestling be removed as a core sport from the Olympic program.

Huynh delivered a heartfelt and emotional speech to the IOC as the final presenter for FILA, wrestling’s international governing body.

Huynh was part of the same five-member presentation team in May in St. Petersburg, Russia that helped wrestling be selected as one of the final three sports for consideration for the final IOC vote on Sept. 8.

Huynh capped her competitive career by earning an Olympic bronze medal in women's freestyle last year in London.
