Five wrestling Olympians celebrated Olympic Day, June 23 in Washington, D.C

Five wrestling Olympians celebrated "Olympic Day" on June 23 in Washington, D.C. Jeff Blatnick, Kendall Cross, Dan Henderson, Josiah Henson and Buddy Lee all traveled to Washington, D.C., to be honored on the steps of the Capitol with nearly 100 other Olympians from all sports.   One hundred members of "American's Olympic Team" traveled to Washington, D.C., and were honored by two other former Olympians who now serve in Congress, Rep. Jim Ryun (R-Kan.) and Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.). Ryan won a silver medal in the men's 1500 meters in 1968, and also competed on the 1964 and 1972 teams. Campbell was the captain of the 1964 Olympic Judo Team. 

Blatnick, who is originally from Halfmoon, N.Y., won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics, becoming only the second American to win a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling. He was also on the 1980 team. Blatnick also finished second at the 1980 World Cup. He was inducted into the United State National Wrestling Hall of Fame in June of 1999. He works as a television broadcast commentator and has called the wrestling action for several Olympic Games. He currently lives in Clifton Park, N.Y.

Cross, a native of Mustang, Okla., won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and competed on the 1992 Olympic team. He is a three-time U.S. Nationals champion (1992, 1995, 1996) and finished second in 1991. Cross finished first at the 1997 World Cup. Cross and his wife Rona currently live in Brookline, Mass.

A native of Sparta, Wis., Henderson was on the 1992 and 1996 Olympic teams. He is a member of the 1999-2000 Greco-Roman Team USA. He finished second at the 1999 Greco-Roman World Team Trials. Henderson also won U.S. National titles in 1993 and 1994, and finished second at the 1994 World Cup. Henderson started a non-profit organization to raise money to fund youth sports called "Southern California Future Champions." He currently lives in Apple Valley, Calif.

Henson won a bronze medal in the 1952 Olympic Games. He lives in Falls Church, Va.

Lee competed on the 1992 Olympic team, where he finished sixth. He was a three-time U.S. Nationals champion (1985, 1991, 1992), finished fourth in the 1990 World Championships and second twice at the World Cup (1987, 1989). Lee currently travels around the country promoting fitness by jumping rope. He lives in Woodbridge, Va.

Other Olympians who attended "Olympic Day" included Evelyn Ashford (track & field), Bart Conner (gymnastics), Trent Dimas (gymnastics), Teresa Edwards (basketball) and Bruce Jenner (track & field).
