Team Georgia, USA Wrestling’s state affiliate, has launched its “Countdown 2020” campaign in efforts to raise money to donate to the Committee for the Preservation of Olympic Wrestling (CPOW).  Team Georgia will match every donation made up to $12,500 in an effort to help raise $25,000.

CPOW is an ad-hoc committee of USA Wrestling that was created in wake of the IOC Executive Board’s recommendation to remove wrestling as a core sport from the Olympic Games.  

Within the first 24 hours, Team Georgia raised $1,500, so they matched that donation and are at $3,000 so far.  The hopes are to raise the $25,000 in 20 days and 20 hours, sticking with the “2020 Vision” theme.

The “Countdown 2020” campaign will tie in with the Rally4Wrestling event and Team Georgia hopes to present CPOW with its donation on Monday, Sept. 2 while the U.S. World Team is at the Cooler.

“Georgia is the latest state that we have had donate to the CPOW campaign of USA Wrestling,” USA Wrestling Director of State Services, Tony Black said.  “Team Georgia, with Anthony Flatt as the chairman, continues to be a leader in USA Wrestling and this is another great example of that.”

This year Team Georgia has held more clinics in the state, had a larger number of participants, had more All Americans and sent more wrestlers to wrestle at the collegiate level than ever before.
