Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Lampe captured the Poland Open championship in women’s freestyle wrestling on Sunday in Spala, Poland.

Lampe, a 2012 World bronze medalist, went 5-0 on the day at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. She defeated Tatyna Amanzhol of Kazakhstan in the gold-medal match. Amanzhol was fifth in the 2008 Olympics and fifth in the 2012 World Championships.

Lampe downed fellow American Victoria Anthony in the semifinals. Anthony came back to win a bronze medal.

Lampe and Anthony will compete for the U.S. in the World Championships next month in Budapest, Hungary. Lampe will be at 48 kilos with Anthony wrestling at 51 kg/112.25 lbs.
