Rally4Wrestling Atlanta will take place in Alpharetta, Ga. at The Cooler from Friday, August 30 to Monday, September 2.

The rally is a celebration of wrestling, a Keep Olympic Wrestling event, and a send-off for the U.S. Men’s Freestyle World Team as it goes through final preparation for the 2013 Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Sept. 16-22.

The Titan Mercury Club out of San Marino, Calif., and its founder Andy Barth have helped created the Rally4Wrestling event concept. Barth is the U.S. Men’s Freestyle World Team Leader.

“We’re really accomplishing several really positive things for wrestling all at the same time. We’re highlighting wrestling shortly in advance of the IOC’s vote. We’re hoping every time we do that it sends a clear message as to the support the wrestling community has for its sport,” Barth recently told W.I.N. Magazine.

The event is being co-sponsored by USA Wrestling, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the Committee for the Preservation of Olympic Wrestling (CPOW) and Takedown Sportswear. USA Wrestling’s very successful state association in Georgia, Team Georgia, is also supporting the activity.

The weekend will be packed with events that are intended to continue the momentum for the USA World team and to bring more attention to the Keep Olympic Wrestling movement.

The excitement starts on Friday, August 30 with a “Sock Hop” and the Rally4Wrestling Exposition and ends on Monday, September 2 with the World Team Workouts.

A wrestling clinic which will bring in athletes to compete will also take place (a full schedule of events is below).

The weekend will bring several wrestling stars including World and Olympic champions Tom Brands and Dan Gable, Olympic champions Cael Sanderson and Brandon Slay, and World champion and National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones, among others.

All events will be held at The Cooler, a popular sports complex in Alpharetta. John Bardis, the Director of Development and Finance for CPOW, owns the Cooler. It has become one of the finest family recreation centers in the nation, with established programs for figure skating, ice hockey, volleyball, roller hockey, martial arts, yoga and wrestling with internationally recognized coaches and trainers.

“The Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to partner with this event and is thrilled to bring in visitors to our awesome city,” said Janet Rodgers, President and CEO of the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Labor Day weekend is a great time to stay in Alpharetta as it will be packed with awesome events.”
