Members of U.S. World Teams in men’s and women’s freestyle to compete in Poland, August 10-11

Four members of the 2013 women’s freestyle World Team will compete at the 2013 Poland Open in Spala, Poland, August 10-11.

2012 Olympian and 2012 World Champion Elena Pirozhkova will wrestle for the United States at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.  Pirozhkova won the 2013 U.S. Open, securing her a number one seed at the 2013 World Team Trials where she defeated Erin Clodgo in the finals.

Fellow 2012 World Champion Adeline Gray will wrestle at 72 kg/ 158.5 lbs. for the USA.  Gray won gold at the 2012 University World Championships in addition to her Senior World Title.

Also competing for the USA is 2012 World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.  Lampe is also a 2012 FILA Pan American bronze medalist and won both the U.S. Open and the U.S. World Team Trials in 2013.

Victoria Anthony, who recently clinched a spot on the 2013 World Team at the 2013 Women’s World Team Trials, will wrestle for the USA at 51 kg/112.25 lbs.  Anthony is a two-time Junior World Champion, and has also been a University World team member.  She placed second at the 2013 U.S. Open behind Lampe.

2010 Junior World team member Erin Clodgo will wrestle for the USA at 59 kg/130 lbs.  Clodgo placed second at the 2013 U.S. Open and 2013 U.S. World Team Trials, losing in the finals of both to Pirozhkova.

The U.S. will also have a men’s freestyle team competing in the Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial tournament, which is being run in conjunction with the Poland Open.

Two members of the 2013 U.S. Men’s Freestyle World Team will be competing in the tournament.  2009 World bronze medalist and 2012 Olympian Tervel Dlagnev will compete for the USA at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.  Dlagnev placed fifth at the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2011 World Championships and won the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials in June.

2013 U.S. Open and 2013 U.S. World Team Trials champion J.D. Bergman is the other World Team member competing for the U.S.  Bergman was also a member of the World Team in 2010 and will compete at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Kellen Russell, a 2013 U.S. Open champion, will compete at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. for the USA.  Russell was a runner-up at the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials.

Also competing for the USA will be Angel Escobedo at 55 kg/121 lbs., Clayton Foster at 84 kg/185 lbs., Chris Perry at 84 kg/185 lbs., Jon Reader at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Dustin Kilgore at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Escobedo, Foster and Perry all won medals at the Stepan Sargsyan International in Armenia last weekend.  Both events are important tune-up events for the 2013 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in September.

The women’s freestyle team will be coached by women’s freestyle National Team Coach Terry Steiner as well as Afsoon Roshanzamir-Johnston and Alex Conti.  The men’s freestyle team will be coached by Zeke Jones and Brandon Slay while Paul Kieblesz will serve as the team leader.
