COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Challenge Tournament brackets have been set for the the 2013 Women’s World Team Wrestle-Off August 3 at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Athletes will compete to earn World team berths at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., 59 kg/130 lbs. and 67 kg/147.5 lbs. A total of 27 women weighed-in and received their draws for the event. Champions will qualify to represent the United States at the 2013 World Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Sept. 16-22.

World team spots for the four women’s freestyle Olympic weights were decided at the 2013 World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla. in June. Winners from the three weight classes on Saturday will complete the team roster
 
Wrestlers who qualified to wrestle in the U.S. World Team Trials are qualified to wrestle in the 2013 Women’s World Team Wrestle-Off. A number of athletes have changed their weight classes, either moving up or moving down from where they normally compete.

Champions from the U.S. Open in Las Vegas in April qualified to sit out until the Championship Series finals, a best-of-three series, where they will face the winner of Saturday’s Challenge Tournament.

At 51 kg/112.25 lbs., U.S. Open champion Jessica Medina will sit out until the Championship Series. The top two seeds in the Challenge Tournament are No. 1 Haley Augello, the U.S. Open runner-up, and No. 2, Carlene Sluberski, who was third at the U.S. Open. Moving down from 55 kg/121 lbs. is U.S. Open runner-up Katherine Fulp-Allen and World Team Trials runner-up and past World Team member Whitney Conder. Moving up from 48 kg/105.5 lbs. is U.S. Open runner-up Victoria Anthony.

At 59 kg/130 lbs., sitting out until the Championship Series is U.S. Open champion Alli Ragan. The top two seeds in the Challenge Tournament are U.S. Open runner-up Deanna Betterman at No. 1 and Jenna Burkert at No. 2, who was fourth at the U.S. Open. Moving down from 63 kg/138.75 lbs. is U.S. Open runner-up Erin Clodgo.

At 67 kg/147.5 lbs., U.S. Open champion Veronica Carlson goes straight into the Championship Series. The top two seeds in the Challenge Tournament include No. 1 Tamyra Mensah, the U.S. Open runner-up, and No. 2 Julia Salata, who was sixth at the U.S. Open. This weight class has a number of athletes who are moving up or moving down for this tournament. Among those moving down from 72 kg/158.5 lbs. are two-time World Team member Stephany Lee and 2013 U.S. Open runner-up Jackie Cataline. Among those moving up from 63 kg/138.75 lbs. is Jennifer Page, who was third at the 2013 U.S. Open.
