U.S. Greco-Roman World Team to compete in Poland; Members of freestyle World team to compete in Armenia August 3-4

The U.S. will get a first look at its 2013 Greco-Roman World Team at the Wladyslaw Pytlasinski’s Memorial in Warsaw, Poland August 3-4.

2012 U.S. Olympic Team members Spenser Mango and Justin “Harry” Lester will compete for the USA.  Mango won the 2013 U.S. Open and the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials and will wrestle at 55 kg/121 lbs.  Lester finished eighth at the 2012 Olympic Games and recently defeated Ellis Coleman in the finals of the 2013 World Team Trials to earn the right to represent the USA at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

Also competing for the USA is 2013 Pan American Championships bronze medalist Caylor Williams at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.  Williams won the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials and the 2013 ASICS University Nationals.

Three members of the United States Senior World freestyle team are among a team of elite U.S. freestyle wrestlers set to compete in Stepan Sargsyan, an international freestyle cup tournament, in Vanadzor, Armenia on August 3-4.

2012 Olympic gold medalist and 2011 World Champion Jordan Burroughs is set to compete for the USA at 74 kg/163 lbs.  It will be the first tournament for Burroughs since he downed Kyle Dake in the finals of the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials in June to improve to 56-0 on the senior level.

Brent Metcalf will wrestle at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. for the USA.  The former Iowa Hawkeye earned a spot on the 2013 World Team after an impressive run at the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials during which he knocked of NCAA Champion Jordan Oliver in the semifinals and then upset 2013 U.S. open champion Kellen Russell in the final series.  Metcalf was also the runner-up at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and ranked eleventh in the July 2013 FILA World Freestyle rankings.

The third member of the 2013 U.S. World Team competing is Keith Gavin at 84 kg/185 lbs.  Gavin won the 2013 U.S. Open in April before defeating Clayton Foster in the finals of the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials in June.  In 2012, Gavin placed third at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

2013 U.S. Open champion and 2013 U.S. World Team Trials runner-up Kellen Russell will also compete for the USA.

The men’s Greco-Roman team will be coached by Steve Fraser, Momir Petkovic, Shon Lewis and Matt Lindland.  The men’s freestyle team will be coached by Zeke Jones, Brandon Slay, Mike Duroe and Mark Manning.
