Lampe and Pirozhkova win gold at 2013 Grand Prix of Spain

MADRID, Spain - 2012 World Champion Elena Pirozhkova 2012 World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe both won gold medals for the United States at the 2013 Grand Prix of Spain on Saturday, July 13 in Madrid, Spain.

Pirozhkova defeated Jackeline Castillo Renteria of Columbia in the finals to secure the championship at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.  Lampe won the title at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. by beating Mayelis Castillo Caripa of Venezuela in the finals.

Also winning medals for the U.S. were Helen Maroulis, Tamyra Mensah and Adeline Gray.  Maroulis, a 2012 World silver medalist, fell to World champion Sofia Mattsson of Sweden in the finals to earn a silver medal at 55 kg/121 lbs.  Mensah lost in the 67 kg/147.5 lbs. finals to Dorothy Yeats of Canada to also secure a silver medal.  Gray won the bronze medal match against her Canadian opponent to win bronze at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

Carlene Sluberski placed fifth at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. for the U.S. and Jessica Medina also competed at 51 kg/112.5 lbs. but did not place.
