COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The top women’s wrestlers at the three non-Olympic weights will wrestle for the three remaining spots on the U.S. World Team at the 2013 Women’s World Team Wrestle-Off August 3 at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Athletes will compete to earn World team berths at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., 59 kg/130 lbs. and 67 kg/147.5 lbs.  World team spots for the four women’s freestyle Olympic weights were decided at the 2013 World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla. in June.

Wrestlers who qualified to wrestle in the U.S. World Team Trials are also qualified to wrestle in the 2013 Women’s World Team Wrestle-Off.

Champions will qualify to represent the United States at the 2013 World Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Sept. 16-22.

Winners of the 2013 U.S. Open in the three weights will sit out until the final series, while the rest of the qualifiers will compete in Challenge Tournament.  The winner of the Challenge Tournament at each weight class will move on to wrestle the U.S. Open champion in a best-two-out-of-three series for the championship.

Jessica Medina clinched a spot in the finals at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. after winning the 2013 U.S. Open in April.  Medina has also competed at the 2013 Women’s World Cup in Mongolia and at United 4 Wrestling in Los Angeles.

Alli Ragan will await the Challenge Tournament winner at 59 kg/130 lbs.  She was the 2013 U.S. Open winner at that weight and was also a 2013 WCWA Women’s College National champion and a 2013 Women’s University National champion.

2013 U.S. Open and Women’s University National champion Veronica Carlson will meet the winner of the Challenge Tournament in the finals at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.  Carlson has placed in the top three at the 2013 Dave Schultz Memorial International, the 2013 Outstanding Ukrainian Memorial International and the 2012 Heydar Aliyey FILA Golden Grand Prix.
