Adam Coon named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week

Adam Coon (Fowlerville, Mich./Team Michigan) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Coon went a combined 14-0 at 285 pounds in the Junior National Duals Greco-Roman and freestyle competition this past week in Oklahoma City.

Coon, a University of Michigan recruit, went 7-0 in both styles. He won by five falls, one technical fall and one forfeit in Greco and won by five technical falls and two falls in freestyle. He led Michigan to a second-place team finish in Greco and freestyle.

Coon earned a USA Wrestling Junior Triple Crown in 2012 after winning titles in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle.

Coon is in the running to repeat his feat after winning another ASICS Folkstyle Nationals title in April in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The ASICS/Vaughan Junior Nationals in Greco-Roman and freestyle are set for July 13-20 in Fargo, N.D.

Coon won a FILA Cadet World title in 2011.
