Roberts, Garr and Davis preparing for World Team Trials

Themat.com made a trip to the campus of Oklahoma City University to catch up with standout wrestlers Brittney Roberts and Kristi Garr along with Women’s Coach Link Davis to get the inside scoop on their preparation before the World Team Trials.  The event will be held on the campus of Oklahoma State University at the Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.

Roberts will be the favorite to win at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. while Garr will look to emerge as a breakout athlete in the Challenge Tournament field at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.

Roberts won the 2013 U.S. Open Champion in Las Vegas in April. She also brought home a silver medal from the 2013 Pan American Championships, a University National Championship and a second place finish at the 2013 WCWA College Nationals.  Roberts recently defeated former World Champion Katerina Burmistrova of Ukraine at the Battle at the Falls exhibition in Niagara Falls during World Wrestling Month.

Garr placed third at the 2013 WCWA Women’s College Nationals at 109 lbs. in Bristol, Tenn. to qualify her for the 2013 World Team Trials.  She defeated Amy Fearnside of Jamestown College in the third place match 5-0, 2-4, 4-1.

Women’s Coach Link Davis has helped build the Oklahoma City University women’s program into a national power.  With Davis’ help, nine women’s wrestlers have become national collegiate champions. Four OCU women’s wrestlers qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials.
