Both of the wrestling nominees won matches in two big events during World Wrestling Month.

Representing USA Wrestling in men’s freestyle is 2012 Olympic champion and 2011 World Champion Jordan Burroughs, who won his matches at the Rumble On the Rails in New York City and United 4 Wrestling in Los Angeles.

 Representing USA Wrestling in women's freestyle is 2012 World champion Elena Pirozhkova, who won her matches at United 4 Wrestling in Los Angeles and the Battle At the Falls in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Athlete: Jordan Burroughs
Position: 74 kg/163 lbs. in freestyle wrestling

Burroughs won his match in two major wrestling competitions held in the United States as part of World Wrestling Month in May.

In the Rumble On the Rails, held in Grand Central Terminal in New York City on May 15, Burroughs defeated Saba Khubetzhty of Russia, 1-1, 5-0, 7-3. This event was conducted under the old rules of international wrestling.

In United 4 Wrestling, held in the LA Sports Coliseum in Los Angeles on May 19, Burroughs scored an impressive 14-3 technical fall win over Khubetzhty, using the new rules of international wrestling which had been approved just the day before at the FILA Congress in Moscow, Russia.

Burroughs was the only U.S. wrestler to win matches in both New York and Los Angeles for the USA.

Burroughs extended his undefeated streak on the Senior level to 54 straight matches. He was a 2012 Olympic champion and 2011 World champion.

Athlete: Elena Pirozhkova
Position: 63 kg/138.75 lbs. in women’s freestyle

Pirozhkova won her match in two major wrestling competitions as part of World Wrestling Month in May.

In United 4 Wrestling, held in the LA Sports Coliseum in Los Angeles on May 19, Pirozhkova scored an impressive 4-2 win over past Junior World champion Danielle Lapagge of Canada.

In The Battle At The Falls, held in Niagara Falls, Canada on May 31, Pirozhkova had an impressive 10-0 technical fall win over past World Champion Ganna Vasilenko of Ukraine.

Pirozhkova was a 2012 World champion, a 2012 U.S. Olympian and a 2010 World silver medalist.
