Coleman Scott delivered with a huge season in 2012.

Scott came through to win an Olympic bronze medal in men’s freestyle in London to cap a wild season where he faced an uphill battle just to make the U.S. team.

Scott is back this season at 60 kg/132 lbs., and finished second behind 2011 World Team member Reece Humphrey at April’s U.S. Open in Las Vegas.

Scott and Humphrey are part of a loaded field that will compete at the U.S. World Team Trials on June 21-22 in Stillwater, Okla. Scott will be wrestling in familiar surroundings at Oklahoma State, where he won an NCAA title for the Cowboys.

Humphrey clinched a spot in the best-of-3 finals at the Trials by virtue of his win at the Open. He will face the Challenge Tournament winner in the final-round series. Humphrey reached the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Championships before placing ninth.

Two top young college stars – two-time NCAA champion Logan Stieber and three-time NCAA All-American Tyler Graff – also are expected to challenge in this weight class.

Stieber knocked off World No. 1 Opan Sat of Russia in a high-scoring battle at the Rumble on the Rails event last month in New York City. Stieber is a past Junior World silver medalist.

Graff has looked superb since transitioning to freestyle after the college season. He defeated Stieber in the third-place match at the U.S. Open and followed by landing a spot on the U.S. University World Team. Graff is a past U.S. Junior World Team member in freestyle.

NCAA All-American Alan Waters defeated Danny Mitcheff in the fifth-place match in Vegas. Past NCAA All-American Andrew Hochstrasser was seventh in Vegas.

2011 World Team member Nick Simmons is expected to bump up to this weight class for the Trials. Simmons placed fifth at the 2011 World Championships at 55 kg/121 lbs. and second at the 2012 Olympic Trials at 55. He competed in Greco-Roman at 60 kg at the 2013 U.S. Open, finishing 1-2.

The U.S. is looking for its first World medal in this class since Mike Zadick earned a silver medal in 2006.

The new FILA rules, implemented after the U.S. Open, also will be in place at the World Team Trials. There are now two three-minute periods with cumulative scoring. Takedowns are now worth two points instead of one.
