CONCORD, Calif. – The USA All-Stars and Oregon both had perfect 4-0 records after the first day of the Junior Greco-Roman World Duals at the Community Youth Center on Saturday.
Seven teams were entered in the dual meet portion of this event, which is a showcase competition as part of World Wrestling Month, which was declared by the international wrestling federation (FILA).
The host CYC team is next in the standings with a 3-2 record. The dual meet portion of the event concludes on Sunday morning, followed by the individual tournament. The team champion will be determined by a point system combining results from the dual meets and the individual tournament. Oregon is the defending champion.
“We had several competitive dual meets with some great individual performances,†said Event Director Mark Halvorson. “Cadet World medalist Kevin Mejia from Honduras was dominant winning all five matches by fall or technical decision. Burke Paddock from New York also was strong today winning all of his matches in dominant fashion. Returning team Champions Oregon also had some good individual performances with Dylan Holcomb at 145 lbs, Kyle Bateman at 174 lbs, Samuel Colbray at 190 lbs, Wade Paulis at 217 lbs, and Wyatt Spears at 275 lbs all going undefeated on day one."
