UM-Morris wins three gold medals at the 1999 Keystone Women's Open, October 16 in Meadville, Pa.   

Led by three champions and three silver medalists, the University of Minnesota-Morris women's wrestling team had a strong performance at the 1999 Keystone Women's Open, October 16 in Meadville, Pa.

The Keystone Women's Open, one of the top fall women's wrestling events each year, featured Schoolgirl, Cadet and Senior women's competition.

In the Senior division, Jessie Shirley (Monster WC) won the 101.25-pound weight class with a victory over 1998 Women's Cadet World champion Micah Kelly (Mercer, Pa./TAPS WC). Shirley also won the Cadet division at 103.5 pounds and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Cadet division.

At the Senior level, 1999 Junior World silver medalist Katie Downing (Pendleton, Ind./UM-Morris) was named the Outstanding Wrestler after winning the 149.75-pound weight division. Downing had four falls in the tournament. She pinned Cassie Inman (Rochelle, Ill./UM-Morris) for the title in 1:34.

1999 U.S. Nationals champion Olivia Ocampo (Oxnard, Calif./UM-Morris) defeated Nikki Woods (Williamsburg, Ky./Cumberland College) in a best-of-three series for the title at 112.25 pounds. She scored two pins over Woods, first in 1:38 and then in 2:10.

At 123.25 pounds, Sara McMann (Lock Haven, Pa./Lock Haven WC) won the title with a technical fall over Brandi Rosenbrack (St. Clair WC), 11-1. McMann placed sixth at the 1999 FILA Junior Women's World Championships.

Sally Roberts (Federal Way, Wash./UM-Morris) won the third title for UM-Morris at 136.5 pounds. Roberts won by a technical fall over Kate Zeitler (Gillett, Wis./UM-Morris), 13-3. Sarah Van Skaik (Williamsburg, Ky./Cumberland College) scored a pin at 165.25 pounds over Jennifer Welsh (Plano, Texas/UM-Morris) in 2:56 to claim her title.

The competition also featured a 189-pound class. Yesenia Gomez (Caledonia, Mich.) scored a pin over Anne Waddell (Williamsburg, Ky./Cumberland College) in 1:29 for the title.

The Outstanding Wrestler of the Schoolgirl division was Lynde Baltrusatis. She also was second in the Cadet division at 103.5 pounds.

1999 Women's Cadet World silver-medalist Jenna Pavlik (Lewes, Del./St. Clair WC) won the Cadet title at 159 pounds. She won in a round-robin format over Jill Pierce (MVWC) and Wendy Hunter (Viking WC).
