OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Three spots were up for grabs on the U.S. Senior Women’s Pan American Championships team, in a Special Wrestle-off held at Oklahoma City University on Friday night. The winners of this Special Wrestle-off will compete at the 2013 Pan American Championships in Panama City, Panama, April 5-7. The first match was the closest bout, and was not determined until the last second of the match. Emily Webster, Sedalia, Mo. (OKCU Gator Training Center) edged Erin Golston, Lake of the Hills, Ill. (New York AC), 3-3, 0-4, 3-2. With the score tied 2-2 in the third period, and the criteria in favor of Golston, Webster scored a takedown as time ran out. One point was awarded, and Golston asked for a video review, in which the takedown was confirmed. Golston and Webster have wrestled many times in the past, with Golston winning the bouts, including in the finals of the FILA Junior World Team Trials. Golston is a two-time FILA Junior World bronze medalist. Webster is a two-time WCWA college national champion for Oklahoma City Univ. Winning by pin at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. was Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC) who pinned Kalin Knight-Alvarez (Vista, Calif./No Mercy), 1:04. Augello, a high school senior, was a 2011 Cadet World champion and competed on the 2012 Junior World Team. The final available Pan Am team spot went to Julia Salata, Canton, Mich. (New York AC/King College) at 67 kg/147.5 lbs. In a battle of college stars, Salata beat Brittany David (Brentwood, Calif./Lindenwood), 6-0, 4-1 Salata competed in both the 2013 University World Championships and the 2013 FILA Junior World Championships. The other four U.S. Pan American team members were determined early this winter.
