Oliver Named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week Senior Cowboy wrestler Jordan Oliver has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performance over the weekend at the NWCA National Duals finals. Oliver finished the weekend 3-0 in Minneapolis, Minn., all against ranked opponents. In the quarterfinals, Oliver pinned No. 19 Caleb Ervin of Illinois in 58 seconds. In the semifinals, he faced Missouri’s No. 14 Drake Houdashelt and won by a 15-5 major decision. In his final match against Minnesota, Oliver put up three of the Cowboys’ nine points with a 6-4 decision over No. 11 Dylan Ness. The Easton, Pa., native is undefeated with a 28-0 mark on the season and a 17-0 record in dual action. He picked up his 13th pin and eighth win by major decision over the weekend, and has earned 80 dual points for OSU this season. Oliver has a career record of 111-6. It is Oliver’s first weekly award of the season and sixth of his career. Josh Kreimier Named WWC Co-Wrestler of the Week Air Force junior Josh Kreimier (Fort Collins, Colo.) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Co-Wrestler of the Week, as announced today by the league. It marks the first career honor for Kreimier and the fifth for an Air Force wrestler this season. Kreimier shares this week’s honor with Wyoming’s Tyler Cox. Kreimier had the Falcons’ biggest win in the team’s dual meet against Wyoming last week, scoring a 13-5 major decision over 13th-ranked Andy McCulley. Kreimier, who scored a takedown, three reversals and a pair of near falls, accumulated over five minutes of riding time as he helped Air Force battle back from an early 10-0 deficit in its eventual 17-16 loss to the No. 22 Cowboys. Kreimier also competed at the National Collegiate Open on Sunday and posted a 3-0 record on the day. He earned tech falls over Virginia’s M.J. Robertson (19-1) and American’s Cristian Masaya (16-1) before scoring a 9-1 major decision over Derek Golner of North Carolina. Kreimier now holds a 25-4 overall record on the season. With the regular season under wraps, the Falcons now prepare for the 2013 NCAA West Regional, which will be held March 9 in Laramie, Wyo. Cowboy Wrestler Tyler Cox Given Final WWC Weekly Award University of Wyoming 125-pound sophomore Tyler Cox was named the Co-Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week after he beat a highly ranked opponent by major decision last week. The final weekly conference award was announced Tuesday by the league. Cox, currently ranked 18th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News, picked up a big win for the Pokes on Feb. 21 in the dual between UW and Air Force. The sophomore used three takedowns, a reversal, four near-fall points and 2:48 of riding time en route to his 13-4 major decision at 125 pounds over 11th-ranked Josh Martinez. The win gave UW a 4-0 lead, which proved to be critical in the narrow 17-16 victory over the Academy. Cox also avenged an earlier season loss to Martinez with the victory. Cox improved to 8-2 this season versus WWC opponents and now has won 29 matches this season, which includes 16 by bonus points. The conference honor is Cox's second of his season and second of his career. It marks the fifth time this season a UW wrestler earned the accolade. In addition to Cox, Air Force Academy 157-pound junior Josh Kreimier was named the co-wrestler of the week. The Western Wrestling Conference, which is in its seventh year of competition, is comprised of six schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming. BU’s Taffur CAA Wrestler of Week Nestor Taffur of Boston University is the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week for all competition February 19-25. Sahid Kargbo of George mason University and Dane Harlowe of Boston U. are the CAA Rookies of the Week. Taffur, a junior 157 from bound Brook, NJ (Bound Brook High), was 2-0 last week, with a major decision against Princeton and a CAA win at Rider. Taffur, the top ranked 157 in the CAA, defeated the second ranked 157 in the CAA 8-5 in the final bout of the 21-15 win at Rider to improve to 31-7. Kargbo, a freshman 141 from Alexandria, VA (Hayfield High), won by fall in a match with Maryland to improve to 19-12, 11-6 in duals. Harlowe, a freshman 133 from Annandale, VA (Annandale High) won both of his matches last week, including a fall in a CAA win at Rider to improve to 3-0 in CAA duals and help coach Carl Adams gain his 300th win at BU. The dual meet between Boston U. and Rider saw two coaches with a combined total of 712 career victories. Rider head coach Gary Taylor has 390 and Coach Adams now has 322. The CAA Championships will be held at Boston University March 9. For his efforts, Kent was named EIWA Wrestler of the Week. On Saturday, Kent won his first match in the Penn-Princeton rivalry with a 15-0 tech fall over Judd Ziegler early in the second period. Kent followed that up with a 17-2 win over Drexel's Connor Moran on Sunday. Over the two bouts, Kent scored four takedowns and eight different sets of nearfall points. Kent leads the Quakers with 22 wins this season,with 12 wins coming with bonus points for the team. In duals, Kent finished his first season as a Quaker with a 10-3 record and he was 7-1 against EIWA opponents. The honor is the first EIWA Wrestler of the Week nod for Penn this season and first for the Quakers since Steven Graziano earned the recognition On Feb. 13 of last season. Up next for Kent and the Quakers is the EIWA Championships held at Rutgers University March 8-9.
