U.S. wins four medals in Greco-Roman event in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba - The United States won four medals on Monday in an international Greco-Roman competition on Monday. The event featured athletes from a number of nations who were in Cuba for training. Some of these athletes competed in the Granma Cup in Havana last week, while others did not.

Winning silver medals for the United States were 2010 U.S. World Team member Jake Fisher, Minneapolis, Minn. (Minnesota Storm) at 74 kg/163 lbs., Charles Fish, Camp LeJeune, N.C. (U.S. Marines) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and Robbie Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC) at  120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Fisher finished with an impressive 3-1 record. He opened with wins over Gomez of the Dominican Republic and Mendes of Brazil. In the semifinals, he stopped Cruz of Colombia. Fisher fell in the finals to Bastida of Cuba.

Fish had a big semifinal win over Trujillo of Cuba in three periods, before falling to Montegudo of Cuba in the finals.

Smith won his first two matches to reach the finals, before dropping a match in the finals to Acosta of Cuba.

Winning a bronze medal at 84 kg/185 lbs. was 2011 U.S. Open champion Jordan Holm Minneapolis, Minn. (Minnesota Storm).

The event is called "Tournament Number Two" by those who participate.
