Wynn Michalak named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week

Wynn Michalak (Champaign, Ill./Titan Mercury WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Michalak won a gold medal at the Dan Kolov International on Saturday in Plodiv, Bulgaria.
Michalak beat 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jake Varner in a battle of Americans in the freestyle finals at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
Michalak won four matches to claim his title. In the gold medal match, he beat Varner 1-1, 6-2, 5-1.
Michalak had wins over Michael Manea of Romania and Evtim Evtimov of Bulgaria in the preliminary rounds. In the semifinals, he stopped Georgi Sredkov of Bulgaria, 1-1, 5-1
Michalak won his third international title of the year, to go with victories at the Dave Schultz Memorial International and the New York Athletic Club International.
Michalak was a three-time All-American and NCAA runner-up for Central Michigan.
