KLIPPAN, Sweden – Two young U.S. stars have qualified for the finals of the Klippan Lady Open on Saturday, both who are student-athletes at King College. Reaching the gold-medal match will be Sara Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./King College) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Julia Salata (Canton, Mich./King College) at 67 kg/147.5 lbs. Their finals will be held Sunday. Hildebrandt won both of her bouts, stopping Ayaka Hanada of Japan, 2-1, 2-0 and Nadezda Tretiakova of Russia, 0-1, 2-1, 2-1 Salata also had two victories, defeating Sofie Nordstrom of Sweden, 6-0, 2-0 then Martina Kuenz of Austria in the semifinals. A number of other U.S. wrestlers have a chance to compete on Sunday in the repechage, with a chance at a bronze medal. Saturday was the conclusion of the Klippan Lady Cadet Open, for age-group athletes. Two U.S. athletes won gold medals, sisters Marina Doi of Kingsburg, Calif. at 38 kg/83.75 lbs. and Regina Doi of Kingsburg, Calif. at 40 kg/88 lbs. Marina Doi, a 2012 FILA Cadet World champion, had one opponent in her weight, scoring a dominant 8-0, 6-0 technical fall in the finals over Magdalena Bolazczyszyn of Poland. Regina Doi, also a FILA Cadet World team member in 2012, won all four of her bouts, including a victory over Aleksandra Gorecka of Poland, 4-1, 4-2. Also winning a bronze medal was Francesca Giorgio of West Lawn, Pa. at 56 kg/114.5 lbs. Giorgio, who was fifth at the 2012 FILA Cadet World Championships, had an impressive 5-1 record for the event. She defeated Aleksandra Wolcyzynska of Poland in the finals, 1-1, 1-0.
